Huge fan of the mics you build! I personally use the dual ribbon extensively in the studio for all different types of applications, and it always exceeds my expectations. It's always helping out as a mono room mic during drum tracking. It's never left out when micing up a guitar amp. It lives beautifully in front of an acoustic guitar.
Could not be any happier with my new custom stereo @willowrivermics ribbon microphone. Am proud to be the owner of the first quad ribbon. One thing is for sure, it sounds just as incredible as it looks. Highly recommend these microphones!
Almost condenser-like in its openness, clarity and presence, but still maintaining its ribbon smoothness and natural-sounding reproduction. Nice work!
Willow River RM24 for drum overheads. Vinyl Albums Live 2016. Always incredible sounding. Worth their weight in gold.
First and foremost - I have to say - we are incredibly impressed with your mic. The look and sound is beautiful. It really is stunning, functional art. It's easy to see how meticulously you handcrafted it and I can only imagine the attention to detail you've given it.
"Most ribbon microphones sound somewhat dull but this microphone sounds so 3 dimensional, it's amazing!
I prefer it over my more expensive Royer 121."
They not only look fantastic, they sound amazing! I personally prefer this mic to a Royer on guitar cabs, and a pair as overheads will turn your brass into silk. Can’t recommend enough.
I picked up one of the Willow River Studios Ribbon Microphones to record guitar amps mostly and it was amazing at capturing the low mids in my guitar tone while preserving the top end sparkle. I also started using it on acoustic guitar, drums, and vocals. It sounds amazing on pretty much everything i've put it on. I've used a lot of nice microphones from U87's to R121's but this microphone has quickly become my go to mic for almost everything. I can't say enough good things about this mic and its builder.
These are fantastic sounding microphones! I really can’t recommend enough. I use mine every time I get, and there is no other mic I would use on strings. Thank you for your contribution to the audio industry!
I'm loving the mic! I've recorded a lot with it the last few months. Love the low end I get from it. Easily the best sounding guitar tracks I've ever been able to get.
The Willow River Studios mic has become my go-to ribbon. I’ve been using a hand made matched pair with the Cinemag transformers, primarily on piano, drum overheads and acoustic guitar. Like all high end ribbons, they have a beautiful, natural smoothness, but where they really shine is the top end. I hear a lot of “air” and presence, giving them a condenser quality, something I don’t always hear in other ribbon mics. I can’t recommend them highly enough!
I just recorded a Christmas song with the ribbon mic for a singer friend of mine and loved the way it sounded, as usual. I used it on Vocals, acoustic guitar and drums, and it blew the singer away. I absolutely love the mic. -- (Lead Guitarist of SVB)
